Aidan Stehman, son of Molly and Joseph Stehman of Columbia, received a 2nd place award in the Catholic War Veterans National Patriotic Essay Contest. The recent 8th grade graduate of Our Lady of the Angels School in Columbia entered the contest writing about “What America Means to Me?”
He competed with students across the United States. A special citation for the 2nd Place Winner was presented to him by 3rd Vice Commander of Post 1306, Joseph Weiss. In addition to the citation Stehman received a Silver CWV Medal and a $100 honorarium.
The award ceremony was held in the Post Home, Friday, July 7, 2017, with his family and a gathering of Post members looking on.
The young man is the first contestant from the Columbia CWV Post ever to be signaled out for a national award.
He will be entering his freshman year at Lancaster Catholic High School this fall. Upon graduation he says he plans to follow his two grandfathers and enter the United States Marine Corps.
Meanwhile, he will be busy this summer attending a week long summer encampment with Boy Scout Troop 35 followed by participation at the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. He’s aspiring to become an Eagle Scout, scoutings highest honor.
