Graduated from Saint Peter school and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
Mary was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she was Sacristan for 42 years, member of the Choir, and past President of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Mary dedicated her life in service to God, Family, and Community. She started the Columbia Day Care Center. She served on the Columbia School Board, was Founder of Columbia Catholic Housing for the Elderly and served on the Board of Housing Development Corporation, where she was influential in building Trinity House and St. Peter Apartments, the first HUD subsidized Housing projects in Pennsylvania. She was a founding Board member of Columbia Community Action Program. She was appointed to the Lancaster County Board of Assistance by Governor Milton Shapp where she served as President. She served on the Columbia Recreation Commission, was Judge of Elections and Grand Marshall of the Columbia Mardi Gras Parade in 2015.
She humbly accepted the following awards: Red Rose Honoree by Lancaster Newspapers, Lancaster County Human Relations Commission Award, Lancaster County Women Who Care Award, 2003, and the Columbia Boys and Girls Club Award. She was “Woman of the Year” for St. Peter’s Council of Catholic Women, and received the St. Peter School Distinguished Alumni Award and Our Lady of the Angels Hall of Fame Award.
She had a beautiful kind heart and a passion for helping children, the poor, the oppressed, homeless, and immigrants.
