Art & Library – Joanna Spicer

The 2016-2017 school year will be my 14th year at OLA teaching Art & Library. I’m a Lancaster County native, but briefly lived in northern England, then returned to Lancaster and graduated from Hempfield High School. I studied and graduated with honors at Moore College of Art and Design in center-city Philadelphia. I was a member of St. Leo the Great Parish from elementary school until 2008. My husband, Rob, and I were married there in 2002, and 2 of our 3 children were baptized there. We are currently members of Mary Mother of the Church, and join Holy Trinity for many school and church activities including summer Bible School and our older children’s First Holy Communions. Abigail & Daniel have been attending OLA since preschool and will be beginning their 5th and 3rd grade years this year. Their little brother, Luke, will be joining them at OLA this year in preschool. It is no exaggeration to say that OLA is a second family to us. My colleagues have held our children as babies, and helped me grow professionally. I am passionate about teaching and care deeply for the students and families of OLA. It is a blessing to be a teacher here. I love helping with special events and extra curricular activities at OLA including, Student Council, Catholic Schools week, spring sports, Home and School, and Art Camp. A few fun facts about me are: I love Sharpies, iced tea, yoga & weaving. My favorite artist is Henri Matisse and my favorite author is Roald Dahl. We vacation to England every couple of years to visit my best friend and her family. My favorite season is fall, and my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.

Music – Diane Cook

I am very excited to begin my second year here at Our Lady of the Angels as the music teacher! I earned my bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a vocal emphasis from Wilkes University in 1998. After that I served as the music director for Zion United Methodist Church in East Prospect. During that time, I worked for Baltimore County Public Schools as a vocal music teacher. I had the privilege to serve many schools throughout the county and eventually landed at 7th District Elementary where I taught for four years. Two years into my tenure at 7th District, I met and married my husband Steve and we started our family. I resigned my position in order to stay home and take care of my family. We now have four beautiful and healthy children Katie 12, Reagan 10, Thomas 9 and Jack 7. At the beginning of our marriage I felt called to convert from the Methodist Church to the Catholic Church and with the support of my husband completed the RCIA process in 2004.
I am looking forward to continue to grow the music program here at OLA and look forward to a rewarding and exciting school year!
