Top 10 Questions Parents Ask


1. Do I need to be Catholic?
Our Lady of the Angels admits students of any gender, ethnicity, creed, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded to student at the school.  In the event that there are more applications than space available for admission to Our Lady of the Angels School there are priority policies put in place.

2. How much does the tuition cost? Are there any scholarships available?
Tuition varies on classes and number of family members. Please see prices under Tuition Tab. There are many different ways to receive tuition assistance. Please speak with the Advancement Director on those opportunities.

3. How can I enroll my child in your school?
Inquiring families may call The Advancement Director at Our Lady of the Angels to set up a tour and discuss any details regarding the school. All new families are required to fill out an application form.

4. Does my child have to wear uniforms?
We require all of our students to wear uniforms. The students are also required to purchase a gym uniform to be wore weekly during gym class. You may purchase our school uniform on the Flynn O’Hara website. Gym uniforms are purchased through B&T Sportswear. Please see links located on website. We do offer a uniform exchange program. Please contact the main office for details.

5. What extracurricular activities are offered?
We offer several different extracurricular activities. Our Lady of the Angels offers, Frontier Girls, Science Explorers, Dance/Drama Class, and Art Camp. We have basketball and baseball through our Athletic Association. Students are also welcome to join other Catholic Elementary Schools who offer sports that we do not.  Middle School Students may also participate in sports offered by Lancaster Catholic High School.

6. What is the student – to –teacher ratio and the maximum class size?
The average class size is 20 students per 1 teacher. Our classrooms are designed to have a maximum of 24 students to 1 teacher. Preschool classrooms accept 20 students with 1 teacher and 1 aide. The Kindergarten classroom has a teacher’s aide.

7. Is there transportation to and from school?
Columbia Borough does not offer bus transportation to our school, although the surrounding school districts who have transportation are required to transport your child to our school location. Currently, Hempfield, Donegal, Penn Manor and York school districts transport students to OLA.

8. Does the school provide a before and after school program? 
We have an Angel Care program which is held afterschool from 2:45 until 6:00pm.  We do not offer morning care at this time. There is a registration fee of $35 and a $10 a day fee to attend Angel Care.

9. How does the school respond to a child who is not meeting academic expectations?
Teachers refer students to our Student Support Team. The team will access the student’s needs academically and meet with the parents. The school will utilize our IU 13 reading and math teacher and instructional support teacher to support the student’s academic needs. If it is necessary, the school will guide the parents to their school district for further evaluation.

10. Where do the students enroll after completing 8th grade?  What percentage of students go onto a Catholic High School?  
Students who have graduated from our 8th grade class have the option to attend Lancaster Catholic High School (LINK) or York Catholic High School, 95% of our graduating classes attend a Catholic High school for higher education.
